28th Jun 2012 Rain and Humidity and Fire: What next for Colorado?!

So the heat continues and fires blaze across the state of Colorado. We headed to Independance Pass for a couple of days away from Boulder. A new place is always exciting and it didn't disappoint. A beautiful valley with great quality, unique granite boulders nestled among the aspen trees. We managed to climb some and I am keen to go back in autumn for better conditions; rain and humidity aren't the best for sending.

Independance Pass.

The photography continues to inspire me and here are some shots from Leadville, an old mining town that you pass through. It was a funny little place; lots of abandoned pick-ups, wonky wooden houses and a general feeling of a place that time forgot.

15th Jun 2012 A Picture

The heat is killing me in terms of my own climbing so I have taken to being the BBQ chef and resident photographer. I am old to the cuisine side of this but very new to the picture taking part. However I am experimenting and hopefully by the end of the trip I will have a nice portfolio of pictures to make up for my inadequate ticklist that I am predicting.

I seem to be grasping landscape shots a little quicker than climbing ones, however this one of Mina on Tommy's Arete in Lower Chaos of RMNP is my favourite so far. I may even have to invest in another lense at some point, just so I look like I know what I am doing!

11th Jun 2012 I Feel like Sir David.....

Here in the summer heat of Colorado my climbing is average at best, I am not sure exactly why, I felt good when leaving England and my spirits were high but since arriving here I have struggled for inspiration and psyche. The skin issue and long drives each day aren't helping but I hate excuses and so a kick up the arse is probably what I need!

One thing I do have to say about Colorado is that the scenery is stunning! Seeing Bull Elk three metres from where you are standing is quite daunting especially when Mina and Shauna were lost somewhere in the forest! So for the time being an amateur 'Attenborough' makes up for the disappointment of my attempt at rock climbing!
