9th Apr 2012 Mecca
I finally got round to trying Mecca this year. I've never got on with the style of climbing at the tor (powerful, crimpy and a bit nasty!) so always avoided trying anything hard there.
Having trained most of the winter I thought this would be a good test at the start of the year. I made good progress working it out in a few sessions but then still changed my sequence the day I did it. I also got to try out the new Five Ten knee pad on the upper groove. Wow what a difference it made! It changed an ok knee bar into a total no hands rest! Both Pete Whittaker and I did it the same day using the new knee pad (good effort Pete) but it's caused some controversy over the grade?! Whatever the grade though it’s still a classic tick. Now for the extension, if it doesn’t get wet!
